Decking the Halls: Where to start.

It’s the most wonderful tiiiiiime of the yearrrrrrrr! {runs to basement, pulls out bins, feels exasperated}. Don’t stress, love! We’ve got you. Our go-to way to kick start holiday decorating: start with garland. If you’re in a two story house with any kind of banister, a beautiful garland is one of the fastest ways to nail holiday twinkle. Don’t have a banister? Buffets, hutches, sideboards, mantles and even doorways are all perfect places to create the same effect. A little garland recipe of sorts for you:

  1. Buy a good, plain, lighted base, and buy more than you think you’ll need. Look for a full shape (no wimpy greens here!), varied green tones, and most importantly, a warm glowing light color. These will be your workhorses year in and year out, so don’t be afraid to invest a bit in ones that feel full and realistic.

  2. Find 4-6 floral picks that are representative of the mood you’re trying to create, and buy several of each style. Aim for variation in texture, tone and twinkle. Don’t shy away from the big ones…bigger is always better in our book.

  3. Fluff it and stuff it. Channel your inner Dolly Parton and aim for maximum volume. Pull every branch apart and layer in your picks. The fuller, the better.

  4. Step back, plug it in, prepare to wow.
